The unbearable in painting is
back, that adhesion to the world, the statement which hides the profound and original negation. The
effort to conceal is what produces this light, this unison between ; painter and environment. It appea-
red to me that for such a tribute as this, I had to try and achieve that accident, that invisible contradic-
tion.
